Lane Construction: Daytona International Speedway Restoration

Project description

The Daytona International Speedway Restoration Project is the historical demolition and modern restoration of the famous 2.5-mile, high-banked, tri-oval race track.

The project included removing the 52-year-old existing pavement and replacing it with 7 inches of new asphalt on the 31-degree bank turns and the super stretch. Work also consisted of milling the front stretch, backstretch, and pit road. A two-inch base course was followed by an inch-and-a-half wearing course. The skid pads and road course tie-ins each received an inch-and-a-half overlay.

A temporary asphalt plant was set up on site to supply the 50,000 tons of polymer modified asphalt mix.

What makes it interesting?

This was the first restoration in 55 years for the Daytona International Speedway, the most well-known racetrack in NASCAR. Daytona operates 250 days a year, hosting sports car, motorcycle, and go-kart races, as well as powerboat competitions on its infield lake.
